Showtime Renews 'Nurse Jackie'

Showtime is giving a second season order to "Nurse Jackie" after the Edie Falco drama became Showtime's most-watched series premiere ever Monday night.

"Jackie" was seen by 1 million viewers, then gathered another 350,000 watchers during its same-night repeat for a total of 1.35 million viewers. That surpasses the prior same-night series premiere record holder, "Secret Diary of a Call Girl," which opened to about 950,000 viewers last year.

The season debut of "Weeds" served as lead-in, garnering a total of 1.7 million across two showings, down just a smidgen from last year (-4%).

In one of its characteristic early pickup moves, Showtime decided to order another 13 episodes of "Jackie" based on the overnight numbers. "Jackie" also scored positive reviews overall.
